Door to door, with as few vehicles as possible

ekRota's routing engine evaluates Istanbul's entire transport network as a single graph; it finds alternatives in seconds and guides you step by step throughout your journey.

One network

Free transfers between modes

Most apps list each mode of transport separately. ekRota treats bus, metrobus, metro, tram, Marmaray, ferry and minibus as one network. A route that starts by metro and continues by ferry isn't a special case for the system, just an ordinary result.

Preferences

One journey, five different views

Not everyone has the same priority. Change your preference and there's no need to search again; the list re-sorts instantly.

Balanced

Weighs time, number of transfers and walking distance together. This is the default preference.

Fastest

Puts total travel time first; accepts an extra transfer if needed.

Less walking

Shortens the walking distance. Handy with luggage, children or in the rain.

Fewer transfers

Travels with the fewest possible vehicle changes, even if it takes a few minutes longer.

More walking

For those who'd rather walk than wait for a vehicle over a short distance.

Why this route?

Each alternative is labelled with short reasons like "12 min faster" or "1 fewer transfer".

During the journey

Step-by-step live navigation

When you tap "Start Directions", ekRota doesn't leave the plan behind; it walks with you.

It knows where you are

Your walk to the stop, your wait, your progress on board and the moment you get off are tracked as separate steps. You're notified as your stop approaches.

It doesn't move on until it's sure you've boarded

A step isn't skipped just because the bus pulled into the stop. Boarding is confirmed when you actually reach the stop and move along the line. If you keep walking, you're not counted as on board.

The vehicle you'll board, on the map

While you wait, the vehicles for that leg appear on the map — only those between your boarding stop and your exit stop. The direction the vehicle is coming from is shown with a dashed line.

It warns you if you go off route

If you stray from the planned route a warning appears and you trigger the recalculation. The app never changes your route without telling you.

Timetables are scheduled

Published timetables show scheduled departures. Actual departures may differ due to traffic, weather and operational changes. On buses and metrobuses live vehicle positions are used to narrow this gap.
